Course editor overview
Open a course from Courses in the sidebar (edit or view icon). The editor shows the course name, last-updated date, a Back button, and a Download (PDF) button. Status badges for Draft, Approval Pending, or Archived appear when applicable.
Content is split across five tabs (labels are customizable in School settings):
| Default label | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Description | Course overview, prerequisites, additional information |
| Outcomes | Student learning outcomes (drag to reorder) |
| Resources | Course materials (media, textbooks, general info) |
| Units of Focus | Structured units with essential questions, subtopics, and skills |
| Lesson Plans | Lesson groups and individual lessons (not shown during submission review) |
Description tab
- Course description is a rich text editor for the main overview.
- Prerequisites (label configurable) is a plain text field for any prerequisite courses or knowledge.
- Additional information (label configurable) is a rich text area for anything that does not fit the description.
All three fields support inline comments (see Comments).
Outcomes tab
- Add outcomes with the Add Outcome button, accept AI suggestions (see AI assist), or pull content from another course (see Copy from another course).
- Outcomes can be dragged to reorder using the drag handle.
- Each outcome uses a rich text editor and can be AI-rewritten to improve clarity or align with Bloom's Taxonomy.
Resources tab
Resources are grouped into three types. Use the filter buttons to show one type at a time or show All:
- Media covers videos, links, and other digital resources (name and URL).
- Textbooks covers print or physical resources (name, with URL optional).
- General info is a free-form rich text area at the top of the tab for general resource notes.
Use Add Media or Add Textbook buttons to create a new resource entry. AI can also suggest resources based on the course (see AI assist).
Units of Focus tab
Each unit has a title and up to three sub-item types per entry (labels configurable):
- Essential Question
- Subtopic / Description
- Skill
Use Add [Units of Focus] to create a new unit. Skill items can be reordered. AI can generate a set of suggested unit titles based on your course description (see AI assist), or you can pull an entire unit structure from another course (see Copy from another course).
Lesson Plans tab
Lesson Plans uses a side panel (desktop) or drawer (mobile) to navigate. The workflow:
- Create a group using the form in the panel. A group can represent a week, a unit, or any logical chunk.
- Select a group, then add a lesson inside it using the panel.
- Click a lesson to edit its Title, Objectives, and Lesson Content in the main area.
The Lesson Plans tab is not shown when a course is being reviewed in submission mode. It is a working tool and is not part of the published content review.
Comments
A Comments panel appears on the right side of the editor (desktop) or via a floating button (mobile). Comments are per-tab, so what you see in the panel reflects the currently active tab's content.
- Select text in the rich text editor and click the comment icon to attach an inline comment.
- Or use Add Comment in the panel to post a general comment for the active tab.
- Comments support threaded replies.
- During submission review, comments are kept in a separate submission context so reviewers and faculty can communicate about the draft without mixing in general ongoing notes.
Saving and submitting
Two actions appear at the bottom of the editor when you can edit the course:
- Save Draft saves your work as an in-progress draft and shows a Draft badge on the Courses list. This button is unavailable while the course is waiting for approval.
- Submit for Review moves the draft into the submissions queue for department chair and admin approval. An Approval Pending badge appears on the Courses list until the review is complete.
Once a course is submitted, Save Draft is locked until a reviewer either approves or requests changes.
Downloading a PDF
Click the Download button in the course header to export a PDF of the current course content. This button is hidden when you are on the Lesson Plans tab or viewing the course in submission review mode.
